Interviewing IT and Managed Services Providers – Part Two

Businesses hire MSPs to gain access to expert IT services, enhance cybersecurity, ensure compliance, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs, allowing them to focus on their core business goals while maintaining robust and secure IT infrastructure. Leaders recognize the need for cybersecurity and IT support but don’t know exactly what their business needs.

One of the core values at STS is transparency in all things and part of being transparent means sharing what questions companies should ask when interviewing MSPs! Last week we looked at several categories of questions leaders should ask when exploring MSP/IT Support companies. Today, we are expanding on the initial list with an additional five categories.

1. Cloud and Infrastructure Support

  • Do you offer cloud services?
  • Can you assist with cloud migration or hybrid cloud environments?
  • How do you handle network and infrastructure support?

2. Customization and Scalability

  • Can your services be customized to fit our specific needs?
  • How do you handle scalability as our business grows?
  • What happens if we need to scale down temporarily?

3. Vendor Management

  • Will you act as the point of contact for other technology vendors we use?
  • How do you handle communication with third-party vendors (e.g., internet providers, software vendors)?

4. Onboarding and Transition

  • What is the onboarding process like? How long will it take to fully implement your services?
  • How do you handle the transition from our current IT provider or system?
  • What costs are associated with the onboarding process?

5. Tools and Technology

  • What tools do you use for monitoring, ticketing, and automation?
  • Are your tools and platforms compatible with our existing systems?

We have now covered TEN general categories companies should address when exploring MSPs (click here to explore the first five categories). Next week, we will look at industry specific questions because there are additional factors certain businesses must consider when selecting an IT partner.
